The beautiful Hermosa Beach is located in Costa Rica’s stunning Central Pacific, only four kilometers South of the bustling town of Jaco. Hermosa is one of the best surfing destinations in the country, where both beginners and experienced surfers indulge in its consistent breaks. Yet, because of strong currents, this is not an ideal beach for swimming and can be dangerous.
Only a 2 hour drive from San Jose, this beach is quickly reached. As you enter Playa Hermosa, only ten minutes south of Jaco, you will see a number of boutique hotels, mini-supers, pizza places, restaurants and surf contests. While Hermosa may be laid back and quiet, there is no shortage of accommodation in the area, as well as several gated communities along the beach and on the hilly side of the town. Visitors can find an assortment of accommodation options for all budgets, from rustic backpackers’ cabinas to luxurious condos and homes.
While surfing is the activity of choice in Hermosa Beach and you will find plenty of surf camps, lessons and gear for rent or sale in the area, plenty of tours and other activities can be offered to your visitors. These include canopy ziplining, scuba diving, horseback riding, a visit to the Pacific rain forest, and a lot more. Manuel Antonio National Park is about an hour drive, while Carara National Park is about 25 minutes away. Playa Hermosa is also home to a Wildlife Refuge and protected area for Olive Pacific Ridley Turtles. These animals come ashore here and lay their eggs from June through December.
Hermosa is a favorite destination in Costa Rica, and it is the home of Mistico, the Master Gated Community where Nautilus is settled.
